United Way and The Rose Partner to Provide Mobile Mammograms for Women in Brazoria County

[Houston, TX, March 1, 2017]United Way of Brazoria County and The Rose will come together to serve Brazoria County women in need of a mammogram. A day of mobile mammography screenings will be held on Monday, March 27, 2017, at the Freeport Historical Museum, 311 East Park Avenue, Freeport, TX 77541. To register in person or for more information, Candice Saxton, Community Engagement Navigator for The Rose will be at the Museum on March 10, 2017 from 10am to 12pm.

A grant from the United Way of Brazoria County made this Freeport Mobile Mammography Day possible. Future Mobile Mammography events are in the works and funding is also available for women needing diagnostic services at The Rose Centers. Candice Saxton is a familiar face in Brazoria County, she and her family are longtime residents and she has worked in the breast cancer field for over 9 years.

As a Certified Fitter of post-surgical and compression garments for women after breast surgery, Saxton understands the needs of women who are concerned about breast cancer. It was her dedication to building a better community, impassioned outreach and education efforts that caught the attention of the Mayor of Freeport, Norma Moreno Garcia. Mayor Garcia helped arrange the Day and according to Saxton has been a huge source of encouragement.

“It is an honor for us to bring a community wide Mobile Mammography Day to the women of Brazoria County with the help of Mayor Garcia and the United Way,” said Saxton. “This partnership will give us the opportunity to provide more women with access to quality breast healthcare and save lives.”

The Mobile Mammography Day is open to all women over 35 years old and who are not having any problems. The Rose takes all insurances and those who are uninsured may take advantage of the cash price or apply for Sponsorship. To meet Sponsorship criteria, a woman must be uninsured, at or below 200 percent poverty level and have a physician’s referral.

“Mobile mammography is ideal for the woman needing her annual screening mammogram. If she is experiencing a problem no matter what her age, she still needs to call. The grant also provides for diagnostic services performed at The Rose Centers,” explained Saxton.

As one of only 14 Breast Centers in the Greater Houston area to be awarded the Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, The Rose Mobile Program offers the same high quality digital mammograms and expertise found at The Rose Diagnostic Centers. To register for a screening in Freeport or for information call 281.464.5183 or register in-person at the Freeport Historical Museum on Friday, March 10, 2017 from 10am to 12pm.
